MOO Memo: Where We’re Going

8 Sep

Greetings, my Royal Rabble Rousers!  How have you been since we’ve last connected?  I’m ridiculously embarrassed for bringing this to you so late on a Thursday evening (it’s still Thursday here in Cali, at least). It’s going to be just a little memo tonight, as I fight off the beginnings of a cold and the super-duper urge to fall into bed and sleep away the days. Two or three things outline this brief MOO Memo…

Giveaway Goodness

Firstly, I wanted to announce the W Mag GIVEAWAY Winners…Some incredible, gorgeously insightful comments came through this week. It seems you all are no strangers to the feeling of self-sabotage and procrastination. I’m so glad we can power through these moments of uncertainty together. Out of the near-twenty people who left answers to the Giveaway Questions in the comment section, a few of you stepped aside and offered up your chance to win to someone else. That is so very generous of you, thank you.

Without further adieu…..using the Random Integer Generator from Random.Org, the two lovely Reader-Commenters who will receive a copy of our Reigning Other Queen’s W Magazine are:

CONGRATULATIONS to the lovely and inspirational @DeeDreamer16 (who helped make last week’s post possible) and the always courageous and eloquent @pharmgirl15 !!! Ladies, I’ll contact you directly so I can get your W copies in the mail to you ASAP. If you already have a copy (or copiesssss, plural *ahem*) and you wish to rescind your name from the contest, let me know. It seems to be the theme this week–everyone is so generous and willing to share the Rebellious Beauty with one another, and it makes my heart soar.

Facebook Me

Last week, I created, rather impulsively, a Facebook page for Musings. And it’s been so much fun! It was borne from a wish to be able to connect with you all in a more casual forum in between Musings posts, and also have access to the Other inspirations and moments that crop up in our daily lives. I’m able to post videos and the musical playlists that inspire, as well as quotes and pictures that incite a direct line to the Muse. Many of you have stopped by to say hello, and I encourage you all to continue to do so! I love hearing how you’ve encountered Otherness and your own resources for inspiration within yourselves—but also with each other!  For instance, my girls @sjjw and @primarycolors1 discovered a mutual love for MOO Playlist regulars: The Avett Brothers this week when SJ sent me a link to one of the band’s intimate bookstore performances from a couple of years ago. Click the pic above to go directly to the page, or go here: MusingsOnOther’s Facebook Page

I hope to post some long-over due pics of the Sam Bradley show I caught in May this year, and I continuously stop and gush over books I’m reading or pictures you send my way. We can chat about ways our Featured Rebel Royals are continuing to spread the word of Other Rebellion, and bask in the awesomeness that is our Reigning Queen Kristen Jaymes Stewart and her current film projects.

errrrmmm. Why so Harlequin-esque, Summit?

Okaaaayyyyyy. Heaving breasts and really unnecessary airbrushing in swoony-pink-misty filters aside…Breaking Dawn is coming. But so is THIS

So that’s the sorta stuff we  jaw about on Facebook. Plus a little shot of inspiration and encouragement every once in a while doesn’t hurt…

Where We Were, Where We’re Going

Last thing I’ll touch base on in this Memo is to let you lovelies know what’s coming down the pike for MOO. Of course, where we’re headed is integrated in response to significant events that have already occurred. Like, hitting the one-year anniversary of moving from Blogger to WordPress and celebrating the freedom and joy of OWNING the domain and site MusingsOnOtherQueens.Com

dance of joy...it is OURS!

The one year anniversary of my  leap of faith towards OWNERSHIP of The Magical Little Practice (literally I went and got the business license a year ago today)…Also, the ten-year anniversary of the September 11th attacks are this weekend. I will always know the abrupt and raw lessons bestowed upon me about tolerance, discrimination, community and grief as a result of living through those times..and I am filled with wondrous exhilaration and peace as I observe the power of many hands lightening the work…

Somehow, we’re barreling into the end of another year. Our Reigning Other Queen has completed her work on The Twilight Saga, and images we fluttered over last Fall:

….will make room for the new images indicating the growth and incredible creative capacity our fierce Royal Rebels possess.

Hello, Mr Packer

So we’ll end this brief post here for now, and I thank you for rolling with me. Last week’s essay brought the poets out as usual and I still remain stunned. I will begin replying to the comments on this site as well as on Facebook now that I’ve announced the Giveaway winners. Please forgive me for being inconsistent in replying these past few months, I assure you I read every. single. word. you write to me (sometimes several times over!) and I am humbled and awed by your prose. Also, I’m impressed with your power and influence.

When I last checked, the sublime  video “I Was Broken” from the lovely Marcus Foster (as discussed last week), was the second most-watched video for MSN in 2011. Ms Stewart’s and Marcus’s supporters are hard core, and I’m proud to call myself one of ’em, alongside you gorgeous misfits.

I look forward to seeing the mischief we all can get into together in this new year. Until next time, my lovelies. Be well and be kind to yourselves and each other. I’l be seeing you around–you know where you can find me. Yours, always, KJ. xo

Embrace Your Other.

A/N: N leaves for his first trip home to Indonesia in two years in a couple days. I really must complete the personal writing project I’ve embarked on soon as well, in case I deploy out with Red Cross again in the next couple weeks. I do hope to be back next THURSDAY with a NEW full-fledged Musings, but we shall see …Thanks for rollin’ with me, Homies. x

A MOO Memo: Short But Sweet

1 Jul

A/N: Images seen in this post are not the property of nor created by ©MusingsOnOther. No infringement intended.

Hello you gorgeous Misfits, how are you this fine day?? I’m quite well except for the fact that I left my house with my Macbook Pro and notes and work projects but forgot my laptop’s charger. So we’re on borrowed time, babies….It’s for that reason and because we had a cathartic and intense story-sharing last week, that today’s essay will be brief and sweet and to the point. Hope we’re all groovy with that. It’s the start of a holiday weekend and it’s summertime, we don’t need to delve into the heavy mysteries of obsession (although it’s endlessly fascinating what the obsessed concoct about our Royal Rebels isn’t it?), nor the philosophies of change and goodness. Let’s take the advice of a wise, charming bloke who paid us a visit recently and said: “Focus on the positive, it’s MUCH more enjoyable!”

Positives such as….?

How bout our Reigning Other Queen, continuing her quest for Fair Philanthropy? Kristen signed a pair of KEDS (oohhh the memories I have in Keds) and donated them to ShoeRevolt so the charity could raise money to build shelters and provide support services for teen victims of sex trafficking. As we know–and as I die a little every time I read the article again–Ms. Stewart, our Rebel Queen herself–revealed in her February Vogue interview that she feels “most connected to” the idea of giving back in a constructive way via building halfway houses for runaway teens who were victims of the sex trade. A charitable and socially conscious Other, she is indeed.

Another POSITIVE this week could entail how ecstatic and proud I am that we all helped a cause close to my heart, Fandom For Sexual Assault Awareness raise over $10,000!! We proved that those of us with passionate love for fanfiction (this fixated fondness can be debilitating to some *looks around furtively and then raises hand*) can help promote healing storytelling and empowerment for survivors of sexual assault.

With contributions from approximately 150 writers including friends Aylah50, 107yroldVirgin, PrimaryColors, TheRainGirl, Awesomesauce and Magnolia855, we helped various charities give back a voice to those who otherwise have been silent or shamed…or both. If you haven’t contributed to this cause and you’d like to, donations are still accepted a bit longer in order to receive the awesome Thank You compilation; however, any support and contributions you can donate are accepted anytime regardless. Click it for more info —>  FandomForSexualAssaultAwareness

***The above paragraph was all I’d written before my laptop completely died on me, and I realized I was Shit Outta Luck without my charger***

12 HOURS LATER. So it’s now midnight on July 1, and I’ve missed my own deadline that I had set, so I apologize. I can honestly say that I was detained by both slightly stupid reasons (forgetting the power source for my writing instrument being one) and also for whimsical, lovely reasons–my niece Monkey wanted to show me the see-saw made of driftwood along the water at the  nearby beach; she also wanted to show me where she collected her magical, iridescent sea shells.

Additionally, I had some work sessions with Leon my business manager for my Magical Little Practice to focus on projects relegated to the back-burner while I was away with work for Red Cross this month. Much has changed since I returned from Mississippi and Missouri. We’ll talk about these changes soon. Maybe next MOO. I can say that my hopes and goals for  following Bliss have not changed, but they have been enhanced and given the glitter treatment.

Not to mention my motivations for better self care have kicked up a notch too. I try to run/walk every single day now to provide a grounding agent for my spinning mind (it’s jam packed with ideas and plans, friends, oh yesss). You know who else has a new regime for self-care and betterment these days? Our lovely Queen. Don’t you want to do yoga and participate in fight training if it means looking like THIS??

As she moves to and from what appears to be fight training for her upcoming role in the uber cool film project Snow White and The Huntsman (the Fairest Of Them All is allegedly going to be lithe, sleek, and badass with knife and archery skillz), Ms Stewart is absolutely radiant. How am  I so sure she’s royalty? She single-handedly endorses an active lifestyle ..and makes wearing spandex look GOOOOOOOOOOD. Bow down to the Queen, y’all.

So I went on a run the other night, despite the arrival of a freak summer storm. And bless Lydia (@ALotMoreMagic) for sending me tweets with attachments of articles outlining safety guidelines and appropriate attire for working out in rainy weather. L, I did all right. I avoided getting sick, but I could not avoid my supreme klutziness. My wet running shoes were too slick once I came home, and my legs slid from beneath me and I fell…hard. I managed to smack my head on the tiles of my bathroom floor.

Yeah, kinda like this, but with a LOT less . . .Couture.

All right, yeah. I had a teeny incident of head trauma, but nothing like I’ve had before, where I’ve actually been in the ER, checked out by a physician and given pain meds for a concussion. Today I didn’t forget numbers or drop sentences, but I took twice as long to complete a straightforward work project with Leon and I certainly couldn’t gather my wits properly to write this MOO Memo.

But that’s all bygones because I want to move onto the topic of You. Can I just tell you how madly in love with you all I am? I truly am. You welcomed me back so warmly last week and then you just rocked my socks off with your gorgeous, thoughtful, heartbreaking and heartlifting anecdotes about the light within you’re embracing. The comments left by you brave, eloquent souls still bring tears to my eyes as I read and re-read them. The private emails I’ve received have rendered me stunned and speechless. Just tonight, as I sat down to write this Memo, I received the most glorious response to last week’s Joplin Stories from a Reader called Jessica. She signed off her letter with words that gave me chills:

I will remain and embrace myself and who I am, facing the trouble caused by people who aren’t strong enough to do the same.

By being Other we show we are strong, extraordinary, and ever courageous.

We are Royal Rebels who fight the idea of what is acceptable everyday.

And on that note of reverence, let’s get to the Giveaway Results, shall we?  Every single commenter left an extraordinary word (or hundred) that I felt in the fibers of my being, so I again bow down in gratitude to you. However, to be eligible for the giveaway, I presented four questions and asked for just one to be answered in a comment. I only submitted the names of folks who answered questions into the Random Integer Generator at Random.org.

Congratulations, to J (@JRollin5)!!!! Ms J is a beautiful, thoughtful and witty gal and a long-time Musings Reader with whom I’ve been fortunate enough to interact via Twittah and email over the past several months. I’ll get in touch with you to work out details of delivery, ok, J??! CONGRATULATIONS again!

Short and sweet, yeah? I’m stil floating on clouds from the profound meeting we had last week, and given my supreme Klutz-tendencies and the holiday weekend, I figured we were due for a light, joyful Memo. Have a wonderful time this weekend to all who celebrate Independence Day on July 4th in The States..and to my Canadian friends,

Happy Canada Day!!

Be well, take care of yourselves and each other. And I’ll see you all soon to talk Rebellious Beauty.  Always, KJ

Muselet: Prep for The Stew Review

27 Dec

Hello there, my Beauties! Hope your holiday weekend–or, if you don’t celebrate Christmas, your Winter Solstice & Consumerism Overload–was absolutely divine and everything you hoped for! Mine was lovely, though Monkey had an epic meltdown, and we were cooped up in a small (though beautiful) home due to a raging, punishing rain storm. Today is just a super duper mini-Muselet…more like a Memo, asking you all to take a moment to review and remember the epic, extraordinary year that featured Kristen Stewart in 2010.

Reinging Other Queen:

Kristen Stewart

Taking cues from the lovely RobstenNation, please survey 2010 and tell me via comments, emails and tweets your TOP 3 KRISTEN MOMENTS/EVENTS of 2010…KRISTEN’S EXTRAORDINARY YEAR .

We get that she’s Royalty, our Reinging Queen. So, please tell me about those moments when you knew she was Queen. . . When she OWNED it.

Here are a few instances that made me nearly weep. Um, ok, nearly nothing. I more often than not, fell to my knees and wept tears of awe and joy. I’m so proud to be a Kristen supporter and an Other Ambassador with this clever, authentic, and gorgeous Rebel Royal.

Double Duty for Sundance…

Our girl showed up in Park City, Utah to promote not just one, but two films.

For the great, and greatly under-appreciated The Runaways, Kristen attended the press junkets with Dakota, one of her besties and her costar in The Runaways and also the final three installments of The Twilight Saga.

And for the intensely personal and heartbreaking movie Welcome To The Rileys. WTTR received rave reviews and a standing ovation at it’s Sundance screening.

Sublime Interviews

Kristen appeared in almost countless print and television interviews this year as she promoted at least four movies in 2010….Welcome to the Rileys, The Runaways, The Yellow Handkerchief and Eclipse. She was busy filming two movies in the meantime: On the Road and Breaking Dawn.

"What the FUCK is 'Inner Beauty'?"

UK Elle where we feasted our eyes on such stunning photos, and learned of her “deliciously handsome” mate on screen and off.

It was from Jay Leno when she sent most of us off to bed with visions of #HankyPanky dancing in our heads..

Oprah taught us how to say “PHEE.NOM.UH.NON“, and Rob told us Kristen was pregnant

Global Domination…

Los Angeles may be home to our Ambassador of Other, but we saw her everywhere this year either while in serious promo mode or on-set during new movie projects. Just a few locales…

Germany

Australia

Montreal

Brasil

Award Recipient…

Woman of The Year? Oh yes. I’d say.

BAFTA’s Rising Star? CHECK.

Of course, there were so many other moments where our Royal Rebel shone brightly…GangstaStew, Entertainment Weekly, The Oscars… But tell me when YOU were stunned…

OscarStew landed on nearly every Best-Dressed List, despite the fact that she had to clear her throat (gasp!)…

A Mashup Giveaway of Majestic Proportions

In case you missed last week’s Roundtable Musings between Team Other comprised of Bouffant, Buff, CC & myself– please go and check it out and share your OWN Musings On Other in the comments section. I know everyone is traveling, or still in a food-and-family-coma, so I totally get how you missed out the photo mashups featured in last week’s Beauty Mashup Giveaway…Here’s a reminder of the three MOO Prints two winners will get to choose from…And know that these are only just a few of the Buff & N collabs that I’ll be featuring in the next few weeks. Their individual talents just blow my mind, but together? Transcendant.

Ok, so the instructions this week, are two-fold. Check last week’s Christmas Eve Eve Roundtable Musings with Team Other, and in the comment section, answer at least three questions that the Team Other Captains answered. Not only do you inspire me and so many Others who admire our Reinging Queen Kristen with your answers, but you also enter yourself in the Giveaway drawing to choose one of the three Musings On Other Prints above which will be delivered to you in a 8×10 matted frame.

Secondly, in response to today’s MOO Muselet, share with me via emails, comments, tweets, and smoke signals which 2 or 3 KStew Moments of Majestic Misfit-ness that solidified your admiration for our Kristen Jaymes Stewart.

This Thursday, I’ll post the top 5 or 7 (because we Others always work with ODD numbers) moments/events that you all coined The BEST of 2010. Plus, I’ll announce the winners of the MOO Mashup Giveaway… Yippee!

Send in your thoughts, friends. You continue to freaking amaze me. Let’s celebrate Otherness together while we finish out 2010 and storm the castle (name that brilliant movie!)  and welcome 2011, which is bound to only get better somehow. See you later, my pretty misfits! Always yours, KJ

Gropage & Giveaways: Awareness and Artistry

13 Oct

Hello my dearests! Happy Wednesday to you. Today is just a Musings Moment, not even a full-fledged Muselet or Memo…Just a moment to announce the Kathryn LeGrice Print Giveaway Winners of  last week’s post. Also, I want to address a few points that I think are essential to all of us…

Firstly, HAPPY OCTOBER!! This is my favorite month, not only because it’s my birthday month, or because it’s the first full month into the Fall Season (my favorite season). It’s a fantastic month because it’s BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH. That’s right, friends, I cannot outline the importance of self-gropage for early detection. I have always existed in this world with an awareness of how rampant, devastating, life-altering, and shattering cancer can be.  Unfortunately, I am willing to guess that you all have been exposed to cancer in one form or another-via family, friends, coworkers, and/or your own encounters, no matter your age. Breast cancer does not effect just older women. The women I’ve known who have experienced breast cancer or a cancer scare are as young as 21 through 65. It effects men, young women, families, friends, YOU.

Ladies, if you’ve got ’em, feel ’em up. Do your self-breast exams, get your Mammo-hugs, encourage everyone you know to do the same. Early detection is the key. Go. Go feel yourself up.

Secondly, I want to let you know that you all blow me away. Serio. I am stunned every single day with your comments, tweets and emails to me. Last week was no exception. The courage, the insight, the honesty that you all exhibit bring me to tears, bring me to my knees. I know I say that Musings’ Readers are the most brilliant and brave of all the people out there, but I am saying it in all sincerity, YOU ARE BRILLIANT. Not surprising, since you are KStew and Rob fans. I couldn’t even reply to the comments this week because I felt no words would suffice. Please know that I read all of your comments and thoughts, and I love that you all are interacting with each other a bit, providing support for Fellow Misfit Rebels…You truly are magnificent souls. BRAVE. I bow down to you in humbleness.

During a time when Date Night with Rob and Kristen spark in-fighting and obscene rumor mongering, plus a few Twitter wars, I see you guys staying above it, staying out of it, and concentrating on the bigger picture…WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER. This common admiration we share for OTHERS, and our OTHER QUEEN KRISTEN and her MAJESTICAL MISFIT PARTNER ROBERT  is what brought us together in the first place, and I applaud you for remembering this. I know it gets noisy out there. It gets petty, gossipy, immature, and downright vile.  There are far more positive things to be focusing on right now…Like, the upcoming wide release of Welcome To The Rileys:

Or awesomely happy talk show appearances:

And tapping into that neglected creative part in you, leading to authenticity, dancing in the bubbles:

Know that your warm sentiments and compliments for Kathryn’s artwork has been passed on to Kathryn. She is humbled and stunned at your reaction. She wants you all to know how grateful she is for your words. I urge you to continue peeking into Kathryn’s website: http://KathrynLeGrice.com to watch for her new works. Last week, I showed you three prints that the lovely Welsh Ms LeGrice contributed to Musings as a reminder to all of us Others to keep pursuing our endeavors, no matter the naysayers, the doubters and critics (those include the inner critics, especially). Commenters automatically entered their names in for a chance to win one of the three prints…

Bryant Park

Central Park

San Francisco

I counted your first comment if you left more than one, and I did not include a commenter who asked that I withdrew her name from the drawing to give the chance to someone else to win. (Hi, Fi. You’re so generous, it’s ridonk). Thank you. So, here are the winners of the Kathryn LeGrice Artwork Giveaway–A Reminder to Pursue Creativity:

I know, shocker, right? You are absolutely adored by me. In the meantime, GO AND SPREAD BREAST CANCER AWARENESS, PROMOTE THE GROPAGE. A Musical Love Letter

6 Oct

Just a Muselet here, lovelies. Tomorrow I’ll post my regular Musings,  featuring a new Royal Rebel and our usual love for KStew and her Misfit partners in crime… Today I’m happy to announce the winners of the Musings On Other Soundtrack Giveaway, aka: KJ’s Old-School-Love-Letter-poured-into-a-mixed-tape-but-on-a-CD-to-Others. I always enjoyed writing and receiving a good letter. It started when I was in fifth grade, and I took a week-long trip to Washington D.C. with some classmates, and I met new friends who lived in exotic places like…Florida…and Colorado. To have a long-distance penpal when ten or eleven years old, having met them while traveling abroad, seemed pretty damn cool, in my opinion.

Letter writing became my all-consuming world when I was in seventh grade. I knew how to fold the 8 1/2 by 11 inch squared paper into a heart, a circle, an envelope, and perhaps, when computer class became too boring, a swan. And do you know what these little “letters” (notes) would say? Something like this:

Dear M,

Hey honey! I’m in Mrs K’s class, English. I’m so bored. Did you see Joe today? Oh my god, he is soooo fine. Do you think he still likes Kelly?

I LOVE U. K.I.T. BFF. Budz4Life. WRITE BACK.

Love Always, K

Clearly, not on par with Beethoven’s prose to his Immortal Beloved. But a definitive step higher than:

DO YOU LIKE JESSICA?

PLEASE CHECK THE RIGHT BOX:

YES: ___

NO: ___

So here’s the delio: I love you guys. I love you so much I don’t have words, and that in itself is telling, because I always have words. I also love music, it’s an integral, essential part of my being, and it shapes Musings in a very personal way. If I we were still in junior high or high school, I’d write you all and pass you a swan-shaped note in which I checked the box that said YES, when asked if I love you. And, as was the case of my first love, Joe (see above, 7th grade Joe was beautiful), I’d exchange mixed tapes filled with music of light-FM love songs and R & B. And instead of stealthily passing the note while en route to History class under the pretense of fixing my hair scrunchies (YES, SCRUNCHIES, facepalm), I would implement today’s technology of Twitter, Skype, Email, Chat, Texting…where beautiful, devoted poetry has been reduced to:

I heart U, u hot biotch. Txt me. xx

Swoon.

Ok. While this is perfectly fine for every day interactions, and for moments where we are in between meetings and errands, and the eighteen jobs we have…This lackluster statement leads me to think: we have lost the ability to connect in a more meaningful way.

Let’s think about this a second: If you could write Kristen Stewart, our Reigning Other Queen, which medium would you use, what words would you use? How would you communicate your admiration for her? Would you put thought and time into composing a text message? Or would you perhaps like to speak a little bit about your propensity towards domesticity and baking…Kristen puts time into planning and creating meals and desserts for her loved ones, don’t you think she’d appreciate something a little more personal than a statement that could only fit amongst 140 characters a la Twatter?

If she doesn't inspire hand-written love sonnets...

So, let me send you my love letter to Others…Here are the winners of the first Musings On Other Giveaway, based on the comments left on last week’s first Musings’ essay from the new website (If you left more than one comment, I counted you once, and I only included commenters on the main Essay’s page)…

Why am I doing this? Well, I realized that I miss the old-school way of expressing affection, with an old-fashioned letter written by hand. I miss the romantic sentiment behind homemade gifts, and the excitement of receiving envelopes or packages in the mail. So that is what I’m trying to resuscitate: the personal connection we as humans, have the privilege of exercising. Even now, as I pieced together the playlist for the Musings Soundtrack Love Letter, I could just post it up on PlayList.com for you all to peruse. But if I did that, I wouldn’t get to send you the CD, in the mail, and write you a little card in my own hand. You wouldn’t have the pleasure of receiving a small parcel in your mailbox. I wouldn’t be able to tell you that every single song on the play list was featured in a Musings essay past, and contained a specific message: Love, empowerment, encouragement, gratitude, solace, grief, joy, affection, inspiration…

How do I love thee, let me count the ways

So I’ll see you tomorrow for our regularly scheduled Musings. We’re talking Creative Living, Following Bliss, The Social Network, and the resurfacing of Kristen and Rob, three nights (going for 4?) in a row…Last night, they took in a show by one of our Featured Rebel Royals, Jenny Lewis. SWEETNESS.

And let’s take a moment to gaze at the gloriousness that is the Official Welcome to the Rileys Movie Poster, shall we? *Stares, hypnotized* Ok. Well, I’ll see you tomorrow, my dears. Much Love, KJ.

P.S. WINNERS, make sure you send me your contact info! P.P.S: I will most likely be creating a Volume 2 of the Soundtrack. There is just so much good music out there by Others and for Others.
